Boarding Specialist

Reports to:  Operations Manager

Status:  Non-Exempt, Part-time

Purpose:   Provide quality service and care to animals in the Boarding Department

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Take direction from Boarding Coordinator or Shift Lead as to daily tasks and responsibilities
  • Greet and welcome customers and pets in a friendly and professional manner
  • Maintain animal suites and areas at the highest practical level of cleanliness
  • Regularly demonstrate sincere concern for the care, attitudes and behaviors of pets and the relationship they have with their owners
  • Recognize and perform specific care needs as communicated or written by owners and in accordance with company policy and procedures, ensuring the safety of each pet
  • Responsible for following approved procedures and policies
  • Willingly assist internal staff in all NOW Boarding programs and special events
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, management and the public at all times
  • Provide animals in our care with individual walk, play, and exercise time on a daily basis
  • Document information on animals in our care in accordance with prescribed procedures
  • Ensure the facility’s cleanliness at all times
  • Janitorial duties may include: taking out trash and pet waste, hosing, use of the squeegee to maintain dry floors, sweeping, mopping, restocking supplies, overall cleaning and maintenance
  • Prepare for the following day
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Work Environment:  

  • Ability to work with all animals in our care (ex. Dogs, cats, birds, exotics etc…)
  • Environment can be dirty, wet and humid
  • Exposure to unpleasant odors
  • Work requires restraining, lifting, and carrying animals and cages
  • Possibility of being bitten or scratched
  • Exposure to outdoors


Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Prior experience in boarding or kennel environment
  • Good communications skills
  • Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal care environment.
  • Ability to show compassion, patience and enthusiasm while interacting with the animals in our care
  • Available to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and some holidays
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to work as a team member and individually
